Your terminals host their own databases so they can continue selling if the connection to the server goes down. Data Director is used for the data replication.

Standard layout
Head quarters, store and terminals all running with own databases and Data Director used for data replication.

In this scenario the stores still have a Site Manager in the back office but they connect to the centrally kept database. The terminals are still running offline.
